Welcome to the site of the new Projections Suite software. Please read the following carefully whether or not you have installed previous versions.
If you previously downloaded a test version, all prior test versions of the new Projections Suite should be removed. All users should then complete both the Admin and System install steps listed below.
(DO NOT uninstall the FoxPro version!) Please read the (new) Installation Manuals linked in the sections below and the Release Notes for more detailed information before installation!Current release:

Installing the current version of Projections Suite requires that two major steps be completed.
The Projections Suite development team has created a Database Setup Tool to assist you with creating and setting up your new Projections Suite database. This tool must be installed by someone who is logged in as an administrator on the computer. Choose one of the following scenarios which best fits you or your group and environment to install the tool. Then follow the steps in order.
Scenario 1:
The local user (you?) has administrative rights on their machine and is the main user of the PS application:
- The local user is logged into the machine under their own Windows Login ID.
- You may choose to install either SQL Express and/or R2 manually (see more detailed information about this in the DSU installation manual) . If no version of SQL 2008 exists on the machine, select the link below where SQL Express is included if desired to install automatically.
- Install the Database Setup Utility WITH SQL SERVER 2008 EXPRESS included automatically
- Install the Database Setup Utility (NO SQL Server Express included but must already be installed on the machine)
When prompted, select Run and then follow the prompts to complete installation. (If you experience an installation problem then try again using Save.)
Once installed, read the Quickstart Section 2 in the DSU installation manual to setup your database.
Scenario 2:
The local machine user who is the main user of the PS application DOES NOT have administrative rights on their machine, and requires an IT administrator to install software on their machine. The IT Administrator should do the following:
- Install SQL Server Express 2008 version R2 with tools. (Note it is OK to still have both versions of Express installed.) The IT administrator will need the tools associated with R2 (such as SQL Server Management Studio) installed. Note the prerequisites below or on the Microsoft page which need to be installed (or verified previously installed and up to date) on the target machine before SQL Express.
- Once R2 is installed, the IT administrator should run SQL Server Management Studio, connect to the SQL Express instance, and do the following:
- i. Add the windows login of the local user to the Security Logins section.
- ii. Under Server Properties, set Security Server Authentication to both SQL Server and Windows authentication mode. (This will require restart of the SQL server process which can be done from control panel or the SQL Server Configuration Manager.)
- Install the Database Setup Utility (NO SQL Server Express included)
When prompted, select Run and then follow the prompts to complete installation. (If you experience an installation problem then try again using Save.)
Once installed, read the Quickstart Section 2 in the
DSU installation manual to setup your database.

The Projections Suite system should be installed using the account of the primary user of the system. If you logged in as an administrator please log out and log in as the primary user before beginning the installation.

Q: I already have a version of SQL Express or Enterprise installed on my machine, is the version I have OK to use?
A: If the local user (you?) is an administrator on their machine and you already have a copy of MS SQL Server 2008 on your machine, then choose to install the DSU without SQL included. If you run into problems with SQL Express or having the PS application connect to the database, please read the
DSU installation manual
for troubleshooting and issue resolution guidance.
Q: I already have SQL Server 2005 Express or Enterprise installed on my machine. Do I need to install the 2008 version?
A: Yes, in this case you must install SQL Server 2008 Express (with or without R2 tools depending on the scenarios listed above). The DSU and the new PS application is designed to be run with a database created in SQL Server 2008.
Q: I will be connecting to a network server. Do I still need the DSU or SQL Express installed on my machine?
A: That depends. If you are using a database that has already been setup on a network server, you or someone who can login to your computer as an administrative user can setup the connection and save the configuration which the PS system uses. There are two methods to accomplish this.
Method 1: Copy a ProjectionSuiteSettings.ini file from the person who setup the network server and/or has a working copy saved by the DSU on another machine onto your local machine desktop. (Overwrite the existing copy if necessary.)
Method 2: Install and run the DSU (with SQL Express). (Do not attempt to connect to the server.) Enter the settings necessary to connect to the network server. Click the button: "4. Save Configuration". Exit the DSU.

The Projections Suite system requires several supporting application prerequisites. Depending on your choices in section 1, some of these will be installed automatically as part of the DSU. Whether installed as part of the DSU or manually, they must be installed by someone who is logged in as an administrator on the computer.
Installed automatically by the DSU:
- Windows Installer 4.5
- Microsoft .Net Framework 4
- SQL Server 2008 Express (if selected to do so)
With scenario 2 in section 1, the IT admnistrator will need to verify prerequisites and install the above as necessary.
Other prerequisites:
- FoxPro Microsoft OLEDB driver - For Occupational Projections users. Can be installed from within the DSU.
- Windows PowerShell (optional for XP users not included in DBtool install)
The installation program for the database setup utility will check to see if your system has the required prerequisites installed. If not, then it will install those as needed.
