Q. Why do I have to import each data series separately?
A Descriptor Data File is a data structure that allows only two primary fields -- an occupational code and a corresponding data value. Because of this restriction, each series that you want to analyze must be imported into a separate data file.
Q. Why do I get an error message about blank fields when I import data from Excel?
Many Excel files have to be cleaned and formatted prior to importing a series into Descriptor. If during this process a range of cells or rows are deleted Excel will sometimes maintain a formatting reference to those cells. When attempting to import, Excel reports these cells as active but empty. To resolve this problem, copy the relevant data from one spreadsheet into a clean sheet.
Q. What can I do to prevent the system from crashing when I have long descriptive labels?
Labels longer with 20 or more characters will cause the system to crash. When changing the default labels to a customized label, use a label that has less than 20 characters.
